Yann Potin's Conference "Marc Bloch. History in Resistance"
As part of the first cycle of conferences [Agora des Savoirs 2026-2027.](https://www.montpellier.fr/campagnes/agora-des-savoirs)
The medievalist Marc Bloch (1886-1944) is perhaps better known to the general public for his heroic journey and commitment against the Nazi occupation than for his scientific work, which has profoundly renewed historical studies.
A brilliant graduate of the École Normale Supérieure, co-founder with Lucien Febvre of the journal Annales d’histoire économique et sociale (1929), a fervent republican of Alsatian Jewish origin, an atheist and patriot, a fighter in both World Wars, a resistance member, he embodies a major figure of the engaged intellectual, to the point of sacrificing his life as he was brutally murdered by the Nazis in 1944. The historian of Les Rois thaumaturges (1924) and La Société féodale (1940) also exerted considerable influence in the field of knowledge, inaugurating a new way of doing history, open to social sciences and engaged with his time.
Marc Bloch's entry into the Panthéon on June 16, 2026, provides an opportunity to showcase the inextricable scholarly, political, and moral alliance embodied by his journey, his works, and his posthumous life. History, as an intellectual approach, a matter for personal reflection, and a source of collective engagement, was for him, throughout his life, a form of resistance.
Free entry subject to availability. Author Biography
Yann Potin is the chief curator at the National Archives and an associate lecturer in legal history at the University of Paris-Nord. He co-directed with Jean-François Sirinelli, Générations historiennes (19th-20th centuries) (CNRS, editions 2019).

Exhibition "The Garden in Motion" by Ella Zadok
The Espace Saint-Ravy is pleased to host, from September 17 to October 18, 2026, the exhibition The Garden in Motion, featuring a selection of works by artist Ella Zadok. Through layers of oil painting, pastel, and drawing, the artist brings to life a representation of a landscape in perpetual transformation, where memory reinvents what the eye has perceived. Her works invite the visitor to a contemplative and deeply intimate experience.
Opening on Wednesday, September 16 at 6:30 PM.
Rooted in direct observation of the living, the paintings gathered in the exhibition The Garden in Motion arise from the time spent by the artist in the heart of gardens, ponds, and plant landscapes. Water lilies, flowers, and fragments of vegetation become the starting point for a work that oscillates between observation and memory. The drawings and studies made on-site serve as the foundation for a process that continues in the studio, where memories, sensations, and imagination gradually transform the observed forms. More than a representation of the landscape, these works seek to convey the intimate experience of traversing it.
Created with oil and oil stick on large formats, they explore the expressive possibilities of pictorial material. The layers are built up, erased, and then reappear, leaving the image in perpetual transformation. Between figuration and abstraction, each canvas becomes a space where gesture, color, and material carry as much meaning as the subject itself.
The exhibition engages in dialogue with the history of landscape painting, extending to the languages of contemporary abstraction, while affirming painting as a living, deeply relevant medium.
At a time when images multiply and are consumed instantly, these works celebrate the unique ability of painting to slow down the gaze, to give a sensitive presence to the world, and to renew our way of perceiving it. They invite the visitor not only to look at nature but to experience it through the materiality and poetry of painting.
"I am interested in what is alive, changing, and impossible to freeze. Through these paintings, I hope to invite the gaze to slow down, to regain a form of sensitive attention to the plant world and to the way we inhabit landscapes. For me, painting is a way to enter into dialogue with what transcends us: time, memory, and the silent metamorphoses of nature." Ella Zadok. Artist Biography
Originally from the United Kingdom, Ella Zadok currently develops her practice between the south of France and England. She began her artistic training in 2015 with a preparatory diploma in art and design (Foundation) in the UK. In 2017, she joined the Plymouth College of Art. After an Erasmus exchange at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Montpellier, she chose to continue her studies there and obtained her art degree.
Her work has been the subject of several solo and group exhibitions in France and the UK and is now included in private collections across Europe. After presenting her works at the Grad Show at the Morley Gallery in London in 2018, she continued a path of exhibitions in France and the UK. Her production has notably been shown in venues dedicated to contemporary art and heritage, including the Henri-Prades Archaeological Museum in Lattes as part of the exhibition "LUCY IN THE SKY" in 2020, as well as several group exhibitions at the Céret Printmaking Center and the Palais des Congrès in Perpignan in 2022.
Since 2022, Ella Zadok has also developed a regular collaboration with Tralala Galerie, where she has presented several exhibitions in Collioure and then in Perpignan. Her work was subsequently showcased in solo exhibitions at the Vue sur Cours Gallery in Narbonne in 2025-2026, and then at La Capelleta and the Galerie Art Sant Roch in Céret in 2026.

The Man Who Drew Trees
To pay tribute to Francis Hallé, a great botanist and ardent defender of biodiversity who passed away in December 2025, the University of Montpellier is hosting an exhibition retracing his main commitments to life. A professor of botany at UM and a specialist in humid tropical forests, he dedicated his life to the study and protection of primary forests. Concerned with observing without destroying, he initiated the creation of the Radeau des cimes, a revolutionary device that allows exploration of the canopy, which he led from 1986 to 2003. This suspended laboratory welcomed researchers from around the world and revealed the immense biological richness of these ecosystems. A pioneer of "plant architecture," Francis Hallé was also a talented illustrator. His notebooks are filled with precise and poetic sketches, reflecting his unique perspective on the plant world.

Exhibition "Dreamland" - Reno Lemaire
The Dominique Bagouet Space invites you from October 14, 2026, to March 21, 2027, for an exhibition dedicated to the Montpellier mangaka Reno Lemaire and his series Dreamland.
Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 10 AM to 1 PM and 2 PM to 6 PM
Dreamland is the dream come true of a kid from Montpellier; the story of a young reader of Japanese mangas, American comics, and Franco-Belgian comics, a video game enthusiast, who dreams of drawing in turn, practicing by copying, experimenting, and learning as a self-taught artist.
From a high school student at Mas-de-Tesse, now renamed Jules-Guesde, who became a student at Paul-Valéry, he observes everything around him and listens to his city, its streets, its squares, its café terraces, the echoes of conversations heard, the life situations experienced… Everything that will later be transfigured, reinvented, and serve as the backdrop for Terrence's adventures.
From his years of learning, Dreamland was born, a project submitted to Pika Editions in the mid-2000s, with the first volume released in 2006. It took courage, audacity, and probably a bit of recklessness to follow in the footsteps of the Japanese manga masters!
With determination and talent, this unconditional admirer of Dragon Ball and One Piece has plenty. With his foundational readings, he quickly perceives the incredible narrative potential of manga, and its ability to create new, coherent, rich, and ever-evolving worlds. To meet the expectations of a very demanding audience, readers who were long skeptical about the possibility of a manga written by a Frenchman, Reno Lemaire works tirelessly, constantly drawing, re-evaluating his past works.
Imagined, written, and drawn for the first time in Montpellier, Dreamland is twenty years old, but the adventure is far from over. Author Biography
Reno is a Montpellier author. Self-taught, he has been expressing himself in panels and speech bubbles since the age of 7. Discovering manga at 15 completely changes his way of telling stories. The graphics, dynamics, format, and layout constantly stimulate his imagination, and he churns out pages and series on his high school desk.
In 2004, at the age of 24, he proposed a one-shot of Dreamland, which he wrote in a week, to Pika Édition, and began to be pre-published as early as 2005. Reno develops his graphic language through various media: video games such as J-RPGs or Capcom fighting games, comics like Petit Spirou, Asterix, and Lanfeust, animated films like Disney's The Lion King, mangas including Dragon Ball, Bastard, and Dragon Quest - The Adventure of Dai, and animes such as Goldorak, Saint Seiya, Thundercats, and Olive and Tom.
Dreamland is his first published work. With the success of the series, Reno has gained unprecedented recognition in France for an author. His always innovative graphic style and sense of storytelling are the main reasons for this. But he has also made a name for himself through the many hours spent signing his works at conventions and festivals. His constant good humor, his contagious passion for his work, and his regularity in releasing volumes have helped him build a loyal audience that grows with each new release!
He was one of the first to form a studio "like in Japan," with assistants, in France. Salim Kafiz and Romain Lemaire (the author of Everdark) assisted him from volumes 1 to 15. Since volume 20, he has two new assistants, P-E and Geo.
The Dreamland series in a few numbers includes: 24 volumes of 230 pages, with a 25th volume set to be released in 2027, over 230 chapters, an artbook of 400 pages, a mook, a new edition, the Remaster edition, for which he completely redrew the first ten volumes, the first French manga published and still ongoing, 800,000 copies sold, and a print run of 25,000 copies for each new volume, an anime currently in production, numerous merchandise and figurines…
In 2018, Reno Lemaire published in Japan, in the magazine Tezucomi, a one-shot in homage to Osamu Tezuka's Leo the Lion. He designed the first audio manga for France Culture, Doruido. In September 2024, Dreamland will be published in Japan by the publisher Euromanga. In October 2024, a new series, Free Quest, will be released, for which he will write the script and storyboard, with the young mangaka Néo on art.
In March 2025, he will publish in the first European manga magazine ISSHO, a mini-series MOTHER JACK, with Kana Editions. In 2026, the manga will be adapted into an animated series, produced by the French studio La Chouette Compagnie and broadcast on the anime streaming platforms ADN and Crunchyroll.

Sussargues
