Temps de lecture : 2 minutes

Commitment to an ecological and inclusive transition

With the adoption of the Plan Climat Air Énergie Territorial et Solidaire in 2023, the City and Metropolis are committed to transforming the territory: free public transport for all, expanding cycling network, sustainable energy mix, support for thermal renovation of housing

Mobilizing for transformative change

The role of communities is to build a sustainable future for their inhabitants, by creating the conditions the conditions necessary for everyone's sustainable commitment.

The IPBES (Intergovernmental Panel on Biodiversity Evolution) stresses the importance of a "fundamental, systemic reorganization of economic, social, technological factors, including paradigms, goals and values".

The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) concurs, highlighting key concepts such as well-being, equity, trust and participation.

Promoting environmental education

For many years, the Metropole and the City of Montpellier have been carrying out concrete actions in favor of environmental education and sustainable development, through the Montpellier Zoo, l'Écolothèque, Planet Ocean Montpellier and thethe Atlas of Metropolitan Biodiversity.

The Metropole has created its Atlas of Biodiversity to know, understand and preserve biodiversity on its territory by soliciting the participation of all local players: elected officials, citizens, associations and businesses. This approach, financially supported by the Office Français de la Biodiversité (OFB), aims to take stock of animal and plant species in order to better guide land-use planning and management policies.

Two major challenges

To reinforce the general mobilization and commitment of all in favor of ecological transformation, two major challenges have been identified:

  • Lisibility, coherence and impact of the territorial offer of ecological mediation.
  • Involvement of all publics beyond the circles already sensitized and encouragement to move to action.

Taking action to meet challenges

To meet these challenges, the Metropole and the City of Montpellier are committed to:

  • Developing and leading a territorial governance dedicated to ecological mediation
  • Proposing a multidimensional, multidisciplinary and multi-actor offer to foster change, change the world "for the better"
  • Welcoming the public to 3 key establishments: Montpellier Zoo, Écolothèque and Planet Océan Montpellier
  • Establish an archipelago of places to recharge your batteries and reconnect with nature
