Making art and culture accessible to all young people

Democratizing culture and promoting equal opportunities for the children and young people of its territory is at the heart of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole's concerns.
An artistic and cultural education pathway is built up from elementary school to high school, over school, extracurricular and extracurricular time. It is enriched by teaching and educational actions.
This education in art and culture enables every young person:
- to build up a rich and coherent personal culture throughout his or her life;
- to develop and strengthen his or her artistic practice;
- and to meet artists and works, by frequenting cultural venues.
Such a pathway contributes to the development of creativity and critical thinking in children and young people, and gives meaning to their experiences, to better apprehend the world.
The 100% EAC label
In 2023, Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole has signed up to the "100% EAC" "Education Artistique et Culturelle" label awarded by the Ministries of Culture and National Education.
This label is intended to distinguish local authorities committed to a high-quality arts and culture education project for 100% of young people in their territory.
The generalization of EAC implies the mobilization of all territorial, ministerial, artistic, cultural and associative players, to develop actions as close as possible to the territories.
In this context, a Convention de Généralisation de l'Éducation Artistique et Culturelle (CGEAC) was signed on December 16, 2019, for a period of 4 years, by Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole and its partners: the signatory communes, the CAF de l'Hérault, the Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles d'Occitanie, the Académie de Montpellier, the Rectorat, the Service Départemental à la Jeunesse, à l'Engagement et aux Sports.
As of October 31, 2023, 24 communes in the Metropole had joined the scheme: Baillargues, Castelnau-le-Lez, Castries, Clapiers, Cournonsec, Cournonterral, Grabels, Jacou, Juvignac, Lattes, Lavérune, Le Crès, Montaud, Montpellier, Murviel-les-Montpellier, Prades-le-Lez, Saint-Drézéry, Saint-Géniès-des-Mourgues, Saint-Georges-d'Orques, Saint-Jean-de-Védas, Saussan, Sussargues, Vendargues, Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone.
In application of the CGEAC, a call for projects was launched in 2024. Objective: to select projects that democratize access to culture, for the entire population, and guarantee educational, artistic and cultural quality.
