The bodies

The Metropole and the City of Montpellier are keen to involve citizens as fully as possible in the life of the city. To give citizens a voice and involve them in the development of its policies, the municipality has set up several local democracy bodies.

8 neighborhood meetings

They are made up of 40 citizens, with the exception of the Centre (80 members) and Celleneuve (15) districts. Appointed for 3 years, councillors are drawn at random from the electoral rolls and receive training.

They are responsible for representing the residents of Montpellier's neighborhoods and expressing their needs. They have a dedicated budget to propose and carry out projects: natural spaces, playgrounds, living environment...

Montpellier Youth Council

It brings together 64 young Montpellier residents aged 16 to 29. The aim of this equal opportunity forum is to encourage democratic debate, so that young people can express their views on municipal action. Health, equality, accessibility, student life, culture... This body is invited to imagine projects on various subjects.

Children's council

It is made up of 64 CM2 pupils elected by their classmates in various Montpellier schools. It enables youngsters to discover democratic life and make proposals to elected officials to improve their neighborhood, their school and life in Montpellier.

Foreigners' Council

Giving a voice to foreigners living in Montpellier, this council facilitates dialogue, encounters and the promotion of all cultures. 65 members (associations, citizens, companies...) representing 40 nationalities reflect and express themselves on multiple subjects, such as the right of non-EU residents to vote in local elections, cooperation between the City and foreigners, development ...

Citizens' councils

Required by law, they give a voice to 330 councillors (citizens, representatives of associations and the socio-economic world) from the city's 12 priority neighborhoods. Encouraging residents to express themselves, these councils invite them to share their experience of life in the commune, and put forward various proposals to guide municipal policy. The topics for reflection are varied: educational success, access to rights, sports and culture, safety and crime prevention...

Development Council

Required by law, the Development Council (Codev) is a forum for reflection and expertise on a metropolitan scale. Its 110 members, drawn from the worlds of associations, business and academia, reflect on the future of the metropolis and city of Montpellier. A veritable laboratory of ideas and foresight at the service of the region, the Council puts forward proposals designed to enrich the political decisions of elected representatives. Its thematic workshops address key issues: resilience, economic development, mobility, civic engagement and Metropolis by night.
