A star-shaped network
Since the construction of the first tramway line, Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole has conceived its project within the framework of a network comprising 4 "star" lines and corresponding to the main axes of the Metropolis - existing or future - in terms of population density, jobs or facilities.

Line 5

In the second half of 2025, tramway line 5 will complete the hub-and-spoke system of lines 1, 2 and 3 and circular line 4.
- The line of several newly served neighborhoods: it will irrigate residential neighborhoods (Cité créative -ex-EAI, Estanove, Ovalie) and priority neighborhoods of the city policy (Cité Gély, Vert-Bois, Pas-du-Loup - Val de Croze).
- The university and scientific city line: this will serve the staff and students of major centers: Agropolis, CNRS, CHU Saint-Eloi, INSERM, Pôle Chimie Balard, Université Paul Valéry. It will be one of the focal points of MedVallée, the internationally-ambitious global health cluster that will bring together knowledge and activities in the fields of health, the environment and food.
- The park city line: it will serve 10 green spaces, including the large Lunaret-Montmaur-Lavalette park, France's oldest Jardin des Plantes, the Place Royale du Peyrou, the 23-hectare Parc Montcalm, the Clemenceau and Bagatelle parks, and the future Bouisses agriparc
Line 1: connecting to stations and the Cambacérès economic hub

The Line 1 extension, due to enter service on October 18, 2025, will provide a direct link from Montpellier Saint-Roch station to Montpellier Sud de France station.
Starting from Odysseum station, the current terminus, and after crossing the A709, it will terminate near the station, in the Cambacérès district, a new economic hub in full development.
This hub will bring together the La Mogère park, as well as the CCI's MBS (Montpellier Business School) campus, the Halle de l'innovation, an incubator for companies supported by the BIC (Business and Innovation Centre), company headquarters (Crédit Agricole, Septeo), office and retail buildings (Halle Nova, Enveloppe urbaine) and Nexus (Ynov digital school, hotel).
Securing and expanding the public transport network
70 million euros to secure the existing tramway network
70 million euros are earmarked for the maintenance and modernization of infrastructure (rails, surfacing) and the replacement of turnouts from 2022 to 2024, including 18 million euros for the security of operating systems (visual information terminals, operating assistance systems, video, rail signalling).
This is a major and decisive aspect of the deployment of public transport.
Completing and renewing rolling stock
225 million euros are being devoted to the purchase of 77 new tramway trains.
They will be built at the Spanish CAF group's factory in Bagnères-de-Bigorre, in Occitanie. They will be used to equip line 4 and to renew existing streetcars. 45 million euros are being invested in the acquisition of 70 electric bustrams.
