Fighting violence against women

In France, a woman dies every two days at the hands of her partner or ex-partner. Faced with this inhuman and unacceptable reality, the City of Montpellier, the Metropolis and the CCAS have been committed to preventing and combating violence against women since 1979.

Center d'Hébergement et de Réinsertion Sociale Elisabeth Bouissonnade

The Centre Elisabeth Bouissonnade is a CCAS reception and accommodation facility that enables women who are victims of domestic violence to:

  • Benefit from a welcome, a listening ear and guidance.
  • Benefit from psychological support for themselves and their child(ren).
  • To be informed of their rights and supported in their efforts.
  • To be supported in their search for accommodation, in partnership with social services.

A strengthened partnership with all social players ensures care for women with or without children in need of emergency support, such as shelter in a hotel for example.

Service open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (except Tuesday mornings).

Online reporting platforms have been set up:

  • Free and anonymous
  • Accessible via smartphone, tablet or computer
  • Open 24/7
  • Direct sms chats with trained police officers and gendarmes
  • Visits 100% untraceable

3919: free number for listening to and guiding women who are victims of violence

3919, Violences Femmes Info, is the national reference number for listening to and guiding women who are victims of violence.

Depending on their situation, women are directed to the local or national partner associations best able to provide a response or support.

Calls can concern all types of gender-based violence: domestic violence, sexual violence, forced marriages, female genital mutilation, violence in the workplace.

Le 3919, c'est :

  • a free, anonymous number,
  • a number accessible 24/7,
  • a number accessible to the deaf and hard-of-hearing,
  • a number reachable by mobile or landline phone in mainland France and overseas departments,
  • a team of professional counsellors who provide information on what to do when faced with a situation of violence,
  • a number that also targets the victims' entourage and the professionals concerned.

November 25: International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

The City, the Metropole of Montpellier and the CCAS have been committed for several years to preventing and combating violence against women.

Every year, November 25 celebrates the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The association Osez le Féminisme! 34 is calling for a rally on this day and to take part in this die-in (a symbolic action consisting of lying down on the public highway to symbolize the victims).
