Service d'Accueil Familial (SAF) or family crèches

These are structures that employ nursery assistants. In Montpellier, the SAF "Les Elfes" is managed by the City. Children are cared for in the home of a childminder approved by the Conseil départemental. Nursery assistants attached to the Service d'Accueil Familial benefit from weekly supervision and support (nursery nurse director, early childhood educator...).

Children cared for in the Family Welcome Service benefit from group time at the FAS and in various PE-labeled cultural venues in the city (e.g. Maison pour tous, media libraries, museums...etc.).

Parents sign their welcome contract directly with the manager. The parent is not the employer of the childminder; there is no contract and no financial relationship.

Home visits are regularly carried out to ensure the quality of care for the young child, to support the childminders in their practices and to ensure that the accommodation remains secure.

The cost to the family is lower than a group crèche. It's a halfway solution between a group crèche and care by an independent childminder.
