- Thinking the city at the level of the small child : Montpellier is committed to making the city more welcoming and safer for young children.
The 2 cross-cutting themes of PEPE
Reinforcing the quality of care and enhancing professional skills
The expertise and fulfillment of early childhood professionals contribute to the quality of care for toddlers, essential to their harmonious development and well-being.
To update and strengthen the knowledge of agents, various actions are put in place: ongoing training, sharing of best practices, analysis of professional practice, adaptation to new scientific knowledge (neuroscience), conferences on supporting children with autism spectrum disorders, on supporting parenthood, on the dangers of overexposure to screens...
Thinking and building the public early childhood service together
The City of Montpellier wishes to be fully involved in the creation of a public early childhood service on its territory to meet the needs of all families, combat inequalities and guarantee quality.
This includes developing and nurturing partnerships and networks that share common values and best meet the needs of children and their families over the first 1,000 days.
It also means working together to design a one-stop shop and collectively committing to a policy of developing and diversifying the offer. Finally, it's about putting quality at the heart of practices via the training and qualification of early childhood professionals.
Avenues of action for a fairer, more inclusive reception system
- Diversify the offer and make it more accessible by acting on costs and offering parents a choice;
- Reduce inequalities by promoting access to all children, whatever their social or geographical background;
- Rely on scientific knowledge to offer quality childcare, adapted to the needs of toddlers;
- Guarantee the main principles of public service: quality, safety, continuity, equality, adaptability and secularity;
- Support parenthood by promoting coeducation and offering appropriate support;
- Articulate with other public policies for a comprehensive and coherent approach (gender equality, reconciling family and professional life, social cohesion, prevention and public and environmental health, culture and education...);
- Clarify the roles of each player for better governance and fair financing.
