Budget 2025: commitments kept!
Julie Frêche, President of the Socialiste, Écologiste et Républicain group
753 M€ have been mobilized without raising taxes. Education (Hypatie school group) and early childhood (crèches at Hauts de Croix d'Argent and Paul Valéry) are the priority, both in terms of investment and personnel. 29 M€ for a greener city: renovation of Lunaret and Mosson parks, 50,000 trees planted by 2026. The Cité de l'alimentation (€3.3 million by 2025) will rethink the city's catering services, with an ambitious educational component. 44 M€ for social services: a food solidarity center in Celleneuve, 16 M€ for the CCAS. On the security front, video-protection cameras and a growing number of police officers (183 in 2020, 240 in 2026). In every neighborhood, our actions are underpinned by a clear commitment to solidarity and ecological transition.
Despite inflation, gross savings are up 34%, debt remains under control and finances are healthy. The city is transforming, protecting and preparing for the future. A concrete, ambitious, supportive budget, at the service of Montpellier residents!

A budget for fighting the war economy
Hervé Martin, President of the Communiste et Républicain group
We voted the last budgets of the mandate at the April councils. It was a mandate during which investments were on a scale not seen in decades. The mandate ends with the completion of the major projects presented in our program. During the meeting, the opposition acknowledged that the town was better equipped today, but criticized us for having resorted to borrowing to do so. The fear of debt is the usual scarecrow of liberals, for whom public services are not the heritage of all, but a field of profit that escapes the market economy. For us, the problem with debt is not its very existence. Going into debt to invest in public facilities means strengthening the common good.
Central banks refuse to lend to local authorities at zero interest. Our obligation to borrow on the financial markets means that taxpayers' money is used to finance the dividends of the big banks. If we borrow so much, it's because the state is reducing its allocations while implementing a "whatever it takes" policy in a war economy. We're warning of the path Macron is laying out for us, because you don't wage war to get rid of war.

Montpellier takes action against discrimination
Manu Raynaud, president of the Ecologistes pour Montpellier group
At a time when Donald Trump intends to call into question corporate diversity policies, Montpellier is reaffirming its commitment to equality and the fight against discrimination. Diversity is an asset for France. In Montpellier, together with the Université Paul-Valéry, we have set up the first Discrimination Observatory in order to objectify and reinforce our actions. Fighting discrimination means combating all forms of violence linked to representations of others. There are 26 legal criteria for discrimination (gender, age, origin, disability, sexual orientation, etc.). To discriminate is to commit a criminal act. In Montpellier, the Observatory days are held every year in June. On May 17 and 18, the city will host the Family Pride festival, to assert loud and clear that loving, starting a family, being yourself, should never expose you to exclusion.
