Multi-year investment program (PPI) 2021-2026

Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole adopts its first multiannual investment program of 2.5 billion euros, an investment threshold never reached before.

Getting around: €1,426 million

Representing nearly 60%, investments in mobility and public spaces are unequivocally Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole's top priority. They accompany the introduction of free public transport to accelerate the ecological and inclusive transition of our territory. And to design safer, calmer cities at a child's level.

  • 649 M€ of investment in tramways, with the completion of line 5, the extension of line 1, the renewal of trams...
  • 113 M€ of investment in buses, including 76 M€ for the 4 new high service level lines
  • 98 M€ of investment earmarked for the development of cycling, the largest investment plan in France
  • 52 M€ of investment for pedestrians and people with reduced mobility (PMR) to facilitate their travel

STRENGTHENING TERRITORIAL SOLIDARITY: €321 M

This investment effort is a marker of the work undertaken by the Metropole in favor of territorial cohesion and balanced residential paths. In addition to support for residents (housing and stone subsidies, mobilization for urban renewal, etc.), municipalities are the main beneficiaries of this momentum. The support funds are part of the redefinition of the community's financial and fiscal pact, and provide transparent support for communes' projects.

  • 64 M€ of investments to serve communes, including 8 M€ for the renovation of town centers and heritage, and 13 M€ of equipment funds to communes.
  • 97 M€ of investment for urban renewal in Mosson and Cévennes
  • 24 M€ of investment for housing assistance under Ecocité and Rénov'E

Supporting local activity: €265m

Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole is stepping up its investment alongside companies and all those involved in its development, in order to position the territory in innovative sectors and meet the needs of its economic fabric. Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole's strong strategic orientations aim to strengthen its influence, after an unprecedented economic and social crisis.

  • 32 M€ of investment dedicated to Med Vallée, a European-scale cluster in the fields of health, the environment and food, enabling land acquisitions and support for projects
  • 25 M€ of investment earmarked for the ZAC Cambacérès and the opening of the Halle de l'innovation to facilitate the installation and maturation of companies
  • 14 M€ of investment for the Cultural and Creative Industries, a sector of the future that is already very active in our region

Better management of the water cycle: €233m

  • 51M€ of investments dedicated to risk protection/ GEMAPI (Gestion des milieux aquatiques et prévention des inondations)

MODERNIZING CULTURAL AND SPORTS FACILITIES: €182m

As a metropolis of cultural and sporting excellence, Montpellier continues to invest to maintain its standing, serving the public, amateurs and professionals alike. The policy of supporting the practice of sports and high-level sports is reflected in investment by a network of facilities spread across the entire metropolitan territory, for which it is planned to mobilize €106 M over the 2021-2026 period. On the cultural side, nearly €40 million is earmarked for the modernization of metropolitan museums.

  • €4 million of investment dedicated to cinematographic and audiovisual creation
  • €24 million of investment for the renovation of the network's swimming pools
  • €25 million of investment mobilized for the performing arts, music and dance

Preserving our environment: €151 million

To respond to the environmental emergency and the consequences of climate change already perceptible on our territory, the Metropole is bolstering its investments for the ecological transition. In particular, through an ambitious food and agro-ecological policy and land management. The Metropole is also committed to an innovative "zero waste" approach, and is devoting €45m of investment to it.

  • 12 M€ of investments dedicated to modernizing the MIN (national interest market) in order to structure short circuit channels and local, sustainable agriculture
  • 55 M€ of investments for an exemplary Metropole, with notably the renewal of the fleet by low-carbon vehicles (14 M€) and the energy renovation of buildings (20 M€)
  • 18 M€ of investments to prevent flooding
