The Metropole of Montpellier supports La Graine, Hérault's local currency. An economic, resilient, sustainable and solidarity-based network promoting eco-responsible local exchanges and access to ethical finance.
What is a local currency?
The principle is to develop the local economy by promoting local trade and production.
According to a study published in 2022 by the Sol movement, 48% of individual members of a local currency claim to consume more local products since joining. Graines cannot be stored in a bank account and speculate on the financial markets.
The local currency also has a social and solidarity dimension: the funds recovered can be used to finance social projects at the metropolitan territory level. Every euro you exchange in Graine is put into a guarantee fund in an ethical bank, which is used to finance projects with high ecological, social and cultural value in our territory.
With a local currency you know where your money goes, where it circulates and the type of activity it finances.
