National Breast Cancer Mobilization Month
Breast cancer screening saves lives!
1er cancer in women, so screening is a major public health issue. Indeed, detected early, breast cancer is curable in over 90% of cases.
Aware that screening is a major public health issue, the City of Montpellier, at the initiative of the Collectif Octobre Rose, supports and joins in the actions carried out. This includes making its infrastructures available, to ensure that as many women as possible are informed.

Also, to draw attention and inform the general public about the importance of screening, the Rue de la Loge (downtown Montpellier) is decked out in pink umbrellas throughout the month of October, and many monuments are lit up in the colors of the operation.
- 5 years after diagnosis, 99% of women are still alive when breast cancer is diagnosed at an early stage.
- Unfortunately, only 26% of women are still alive when the cancer is detected at an advanced stage.
- 80% of breast cancers are diagnosed in women aged 50 to 74, with no particular risk factors: this is the age group targeted by the national program's organized breast cancer screening, as it is in this age group that its effectiveness has been proven. Mammography is repeated every 2 years.

Screening is carried out by a medical imaging test, called a mammogram. Mammography makes it possible to spot cancer at an early stage, in the absence of any symptoms.
The stages of screening:
- All year round, the Centre régional de coordination du dépistage des cancers (CRCDC) extends an invitation to women aged 50 to 74 to undergo a free screening mammogram and benefit from a clinical examination, at an approved radiologist or in the Mammobile.
- The list of approved radiologists and the Mammobile schedule are enclosed with their invitation letter.
- Invitations are made every 2 years. The effectiveness of screening depends on regular testing.
You've never been screened:
Women over 50 who have never been screened or whose last mammogram was more than 2 years ago can contact the CRCDC to check their eligibility for screening, or can speak directly to their radiologist if he or she is on the list of radiologists approved by the screening campaign.
You can visit the Mammobile without a prescription and without an appointment if:
- You are between 50 and 74 years old,
- Your last mammogram was at least 21 months ago,
- You are covered by a French health insurance fund.
